Unlike most peels, this is a non-acid peel. It works using a concentrated Retinaldehyde (Vitamin A), and behaves differently than traditional acid-based peels.

Our skin cells are constantly renewing, but as we age the rate at which our cells renew (AKA our skin cell turnover) slows down. Vitamin A causes a dramatic increase in cell turnover, to the degree that most of our clients experience mild to moderate flaking of the outer layers of skin following this treatment. The skin cells are renewing at such a rate that dull, keratinised cells on the surface are literally pushed off by new cells coming through. Increased cell turnover helps to fade pre-existing pigmentation on the skin, leading to a more even skin tone.

Vitamin A also reduces oil production in the skin, making this treatment incredibly effective for treating acne, breakouts, congestion, blackheads, and enlarged pores.

This treatment is effective in fading PIH(post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation) – the residual red/pink/brown pigment that can sit in the skin for long periods of time following breakouts.

Other effects of this high dose Vitamin A in the skin include a thickening of the Dermis (which naturally thins as we age, leading to wrinkles, fine lines and sagging), increased collagen and elastin production, reduction of fine lines/wrinkles, and accelerated healing of any pre-existing breakouts/acne lesions.

What to Expect

The first step is your free consultation.

During your consultation, a treatment provider will carefully examine your face, neck, chest, and hands to check for the kind of sun damage, vascular issues, and pigment irregularities that can be helped with BBL.

Before Treatment

Prime your skin two to four weeks prior with A-new to assist in better absorption and tolerance

Avoid tanning and prolonged sun exposure for two weeks prior

During Treatment

The treatment involves your therapist applying a concentrated vitamin A blended with antioxidants and botanicals to your skin using brushes and hot towels to infuse. No discomfort is felt during this treatment, with many clients commenting on the relaxation benefit

After Treatment

day 1-2

You may experience tightness, dryness, flaking and slight skin discolouration (discolouration due to high amounts of Beta Carotene), which are all normal. Cleanse your skin with a very mild cleanser including Calming or Purifying. The treatment is still successful if you do not experience any of these symptoms. Please stay out of direct sun exposure and continue use of Sun Protection. Please do NOT use any products with Retinol or exfoliants. (A-New, Papaya Enzyme, Face Polish)

day 3

The skin can gradually become drier and tighter. This is normal and sloughing of the skin may begin. Nourish with a moisturiser including Infusions and continue use of Sun Protection. REDuce may also be used as a healing serum. Please do NOT use any products with Retinol or exfoliants. (A-New, Papaya Enzyme, Face Polish)

day 4-7

The skin may slough, which is normal and may last up to 7 days. Continue use of gentle products and Sun Protection. Skin has finished exfoliating once sloughing has subsided and skin has normalised.

NOTE: You may continue the use of Polish and Vitamin A Serums with Retinol as soon as stinging has subsided and the skin has normalised.

• Pick, peel, scrape or scratch your skin – it may cause scarring and reveal skin that is not yet ready to come to the surface.

• Exfoliate or wax until your skin has normalised.

• Spend a prolonged time in the sun, and when in the sun use Sun Protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Vitamin A Peel Painful or Uncomfortable?

The Vitamin A peel is completely painless. Some clients find the peel quite stimulating to the skin, and will experience some tingling/warmth but it is not an uncomfortable sensation.

How long is the downtime?

Downtime after a Vitamin A peel is very minimal. Mild peeling/flaking typically begins on the second day after the peel, and can continue for up to 3 days. It is important to avoid any heat inducing activities in the first 24-48 hours after the Vitamin A Peel – this includes spas, saunas, hot yoga, and heavy exercise.

How often should I have this treatment?

We recommend to have this treatment at four week intervals.

How is the treatment performed?

Your practitioner will thoroughly clean the skin to prep for the treatment. An enzyme treatment is performed prior to peel application to ensure the skin is well prepped, and to increase penetration of the peel. Your practitioner will customise your peel solution with powder actives based on your specific skin concerns. The Vitamin A solution is then massaged into the skin for around 20-30 minutes until completely absorbed. Your practitioner will then apply finishing serums to boost your treatment, and go through your post-care guidelines with you.

Is the Vitamin A peel safe for any skin colour?

Yes, this treatment can be performed on any skin colour..

Can I increase my results at home?

Yes – we require clients to be using medical grade skincare at home if they are having this treatment done. Using medical-grade skincare will drastically boost your results from this treatment, and increase the speed at which your skin heals post-treatment.

Can I wear makeup after a peel?

We recommend to avoid makeup as much as possible during the peeling process, but if you wish to, we recommend using a mineral makeup.
